BCL Featured on About.com

Ginny Wiehardt, About.com’s Fiction Writing Guide, has a nice post on Brooklyn Creative League’s creative writers. Here’s what writer, artist, and musician Summer Pierre had to say:

“I knew that I needed a space to go and be with other people because I tend to whither in isolation, but I was worried about the kind of time I could commit to an office space and the kind of rent I could consistently afford…I love the new and open atmosphere at BCL. It makes me want to go there and get to work.”

Generation Schools

generation_schoolsGeneration Schools is an nonprofit organization dedicated to whole-school and systemic innovation in urban public education. Their award-winning work fundamentally restructures a school’s existing resources, particularly human capital and time. The result: a successful public school model that cuts core class size in half for all students and offers a 200-day year without increasing the teacher work year or increasing school costs. www.generationschools.org

BCL in the Neighborhood News

The dog days of August brought out the love for BCL from the local media. We were featured in:

  • Hey Brooklyn, a great podcast produced by the winsome (and whip-smart!) blog The Amber Show.
  • The Linewaiters Gazette. Published by the Park Slope Food Coop, the Gazette is a window onto the soul of this Park Slope institution–the good, the bad, the lovable, and the absurd. Adriana Velez wrote our feature, so be sure to check out her scrumptious food blog.

BCL in Time Out New York

Time Out NY

Time Out NY

Brooklyn Creative League was featured in the April 9–15, 2009 issue of Time out New York:

“Erin Carney and Neil Carlson elected to launch the Brooklyn Creative League (540 President St between Third and Fourth Aves, Gowanus; 718-576-2104, brooklyncreativeleague.com) to counteract their own at-home-freelancer woes. The BCL, located on the top floor of an old sweater factory in Gowanus, officially opens Wednesday 15. Choose from a wide range of options—from a full-time private office at $1,500 a month to part-time work stations at $350 a month—for small-shop companies, writers, designers and nonprofits.”
